Ingredients

  • 14 ounces firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)

Instructions

Follow these easy steps to make your own Black Pepper Tofu at home:

  1. Press the Tofu: Use a tofu press or wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel. Place a weight on top to drain excess moisture for about 15-20 minutes.
  1. Cut the Tofu: Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. This will allow for better flavor absorption during cooking.
  1. Heat Oil in Pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  1. Cook Tofu: Add the tofu cubes to the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown, flipping occasionally. Remove tofu from the pan and set aside.
  1. Saute Vegetables: In the same pan, add sliced bell pepper, onion, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  1. Combine Ingredients: Return the tofu to the pan. Stir in the soy sauce, black pepper, and cornstarch. Mix well to coat everything evenly.
  1. Add Sesame Oil: Drizzle sesame oil over the mixture and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing everything to combine nicely.
  1. Garnish: Remove the pan from heat and sprinkle chopped green onions on top for a fresh garnish.
  1. Serve: Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles, and enjoy your delicious Black Pepper Tofu!
